How do you pick penny stocks and IPO’s?

Penny stocks are usually not investments, but rather an outright gamble, because there is no real operating company behind. Often it is a 1-man company with no assets, business plan or even a real office. If someone manages to find an outfit to hype the company (often at tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars) in a fancy glossy investment letter, you will make money if you sell quickly once the stock price starts to climb, and before the whole scheme collapses to usually lower levels than before.

IPO’s of a really good company are usually only offered to the better customers of a big name underwriter. If a schlock house broker you never heard of is one of the underwriters watch out, it is probably a dog and money loser.
